It is the 12th highest mountain in the world. Broad Peak was first conquered in 1957 by an Austrian expedition that was led by Marcus Schmuck, Fritz Wintersteller, Kurt Diemberger, and Hermann Buhl. The team had been sent to climb K2 and went on to ascend Broad Peak afterward.

There are three main routes to the summit, and they are all considered to be on the more difficult side of climbs:
The North Ridge
The North Ridge is considered to be one of the more dangerous routes, largely because there are a series of crevasses that cause people who attempt it to fall off a sheer rock face. It’s also not very popular among climbers due to how difficult it can be to get a good grip on the rock with your hands and feet.
The Northeast Spur
The Northeast Spur is known for being treacherous because climbers often lose their footing on loose rocks or become stuck in an avalanche due to heavy snowfall during their ascent. It can also take two days for someone attempting this route just to reach base camp!
The Normal Route
Finally, there’s what some people call “the normal route”, which takes climbers up through an ice field called “Broad Peak Glacier” before making its way over some rocky terrain towards higher elevations where there are fewer trees but more jagged edges on the rocks you’ll encounter along your journey.
Every year, thousands of climbers attempt to trek up Broad Peak. It’s a challenge to the mind, body, and spirit that is both daunting and exhilarating.
